If it is said that Thailand is now an aging society, it is not incorrect because according to statistics for 2023, Thailand has a population over 60 years of age, totaling 13,043,792 people, or 19.74% of the total population of 66,061,517 people, putting Thailand in the category of completely elderly society.

Many elderly people are forced to live alone, have no space to interact with others, and do not participate in social activities, putting them at risk of social isolation or loneliness, which is a factor that affects their health and causes various diseases. When they feel excluded from society, it can have a negative impact on their mental health, increasing the risk of depression in the elderly. On the other hand, if they provide a place for the elderly to share their experiences and life skills. Society will gain a wealth of knowledge outside of textbooks. The physical condition has changed, but the knowledge remains at an expert level.

While it’s true that aging causes a decline in physical abilities, the invaluable knowledge, wisdom, and experience that comes with age is undeniably a boon to society. In order to address the issues of isolation and underutilization, it is crucial to provide opportunities for the elderly to reach their full potential.

Thus, The Power of Social Change 2024 is an initiative that the Suthirat Foundation hopes to implement in order to mobilize the geriatric population to reach their full potential.

The goal is to encourage participation in activities that benefit society, to promote mental health and wisdom, and to prepare the elderly to be social change leaders who can pass on their knowledge and experiences to others in society.

The Foundation anticipates that 300 elderly people with the potential to meet the application criteria will go through the project process, with 120 completing the course that covers all six zones and fifty districts in Bangkok. The project has benefited over 5,000 elderly people and communities, as well as at least 20 social development projects initiated by project participants.
