Donate Money to Support the Suan Dok Hospital Foundation

Chiang Mai University

On July 18, 2022, Prof. (Specialist) Dr. Bannakit Lojanapiwat, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, received a donation of 1,000,000 baht from representatives of the Suthirat Yoovidhya Foundation to contribute to the Suan Dok Hospital Foundation in the project to renovate the Sujino Patient Building, Maharat Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University.

The internal structure of the Luang Pu Waen “Sujinno” patient building has deteriorated over time because it is an inpatient ward that is constantly in use, including limited medical equipment, and has been so for a long time. The ward in the building had been continuously used until it was dilapidated, so both the interior and exterior structures needed to be renovated. This includes 106 overcrowded general patient rooms and 78 special patient rooms, as well as improvements to utility systems and elevators in order to provide a good patient care environment and allow the building to be used for an extended period. Because the Luang Pu Waen “Sujinno” patient building is an inpatient ward, the main building for admitting inpatients at Maharaj Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital, patients come in and out as long as there are available beds, which have a very high bed occupancy rate, particularly in the internal medicine ward. Making improvements is difficult at the same time, as the standards of the medical wards from 40 years ago have changed dramatically due to the dilapidated state of the wards in the Sujinno Ward building. Consequently, this project must be completed so that the ward in the Sujino Patient Building can continue to care for patients in accordance with current international medical standards for an extended period of time. This is to improve treatment outcomes and patient safety.

Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital's emergency room is currently designated as a Level 1 trauma center. Thailand is currently an aging society, making it more vulnerable to emergencies caused by vascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and acute ischemic stroke. If not treated promptly, the risk of death or permanent disability increases. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the emergency room to be a comprehensive emergency room with a coronary catheterization room, stroke treatment, and treatment for blood clots, including having an operating room in the emergency room that can treat emergency patients without having to move the patient to another area, an isolation room for infectious diseases, an eye, ear, nose, and throat examination room like an emergency room, and complete services (One-Stop-Service ER).
