'Nutrition School Food': A Nutritious Breakfast Every Child Should Eat

We know that eating healthy foods or getting enough 'nutrition' in each meal is important for people of all ages. 'School Nutrition' thus refers to more than just food that fills the stomach; it must also be nutrient-dense and provide enough energy to allow children to learn effectively.

Children’s lunch trays must therefore include carbohydrates from rice, protein and fat from meat, as well as vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables. This is the lunch that adults wish children could eat, but not every school can provide it.

Because most small and remote schools have a limited number of teachers. Purchasing and allocating the lunch budget may therefore be the least important priority. A budget of 21 baht per meal per person may not be sufficient. The lunch budget may need to be split between primary and secondary school students, particularly in schools with expanded opportunities. Lunch thus becomes a meal that prioritizes quantity over complete nutrition in order to provide a complete meal for everyone. So we see images of lunch trays piled high with rice rather than fruits and vegetables, or food options on the trays that are far fewer than the number of holes.

To improve the children’s meals, the Suthirat Yoovidhya Foundation, the C.C.F. Foundation for Children and Youth, and Salana Organic Village Company (Social Enterprise) Co., Ltd. have collaborated to continue the project. The Share for Life project 'Pan Im Pue Nong' delivers 34,000 kilograms of Salana organic rice to 63 schools in the provinces of Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Lop Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and Sing Buri. The project intends to deliver organic rice to children in primary schools and small remote opportunity schools, allowing them to fill their stomachs with organic rice while also benefiting from various whole grain rice varieties. Teachers reduce the burden of managing lunch. The school has also reduced the cost of purchasing rice so that the remaining budget can be used to provide enough lunch.

Join us in restoring the significance of a balanced lunch for every child.
